Mmegi Online :: Emulate the goose – Kokorwe

Kokorwe, who implored women to emulate the goose, was giving a keynote address at the SDA Women’s conference hosted by the Botswana Union recently.

“When geese fly and one of them falls sick or is injured, they show concern for it by landing, until it is able to fly again or die. When the lead goose tires in flight, another moves into the lead position with a fresh sense of direction and energetic stamina. The lead goose gives direction and energises the rest of the wedge that are following. The geese communicate,” Kokorwe said.

Kokorwe said not only should women look among themselves to portray love, but also touch other people’s lives.

She appreciated one of the conference objectives of affirming that women are of immeasurable worth by virtue of their creation and redemption. She also noted the need for them to foster spiritual growth and renewal, saying their gathering recognises the growth of their strength as women.

“You have gathered here to embrace each other and as you do, note that your conference objectives challenge us as women in our pilgrimage as disciples of Jesus Christ,” Kokorwe said. She challenged women to play a meaningful role at home and abroad.

“Let us address issues such as illiteracy, abuse, poverty,

health risks, workloads and lack of training, mentoring and leadership opportunities most of which affect us women,” she said.

Kokorwe also applauded women’s conference for having collaborated with Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs and the Police, on the programme entitled ‘End It Now’ to address abuse of women and the girl child.

“A number of you have been involved in the programmes taking care of orphans, destitutes, the vulnerable and elderly people in the society,” Kokorwe noted, saying she is impressed that women are also initiating projects on mental health, cancer awareness and mentoring and training.

The three-day conference, held under the theme ‘A Woman Of Virtue’, also attracted an international motivational speaker from the SDA women’s ministries, Heather-Dawn Small. She is the director for Women’s Ministries at the General Conference of SDA. She gave presentations on personal development and unpacked critical issues on the theme ‘Women Of Virtue’.

Her husband Joseph Small, a volunteer pastor at Deanwood SDA Company in North-east, Washington DC, was also one of the main speakers. Other topics covered were ‘Family Matters’ by Pastor Small, ‘Women As Mothers’ by Caroline Chola, ‘Women As Singles’ by Beauty Kotela. More than 500 women representatives attended the event from SDAC ministries across Botswana.
