The outspoken Zebras coach accused some of his superiors of sabotaging the team’s efforts after the national side went down 1-0 to Mauritania in the opening 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to the coach, some officials around BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti, are not true to the team’s cause.

Butler was happy with the display by his young charges despite the marginal loss. In his lash out he said, “What goes outside is totally unacceptable. We are happy with the president, Maclean Letshwiti but there is a problem with people around him. We wonder if they are with us or not. I am fed up to the back teeth. They should stop sabotaging those who want to do good for the nation.”

Butler also mentioned he will leave the country a proud man. “We appreciate the support from Batswana, the President of the country Ian Khama, he has also been very supportive and if I was to go now, I will leave very proud of what I have achieved with

these young boys.” In response to the coach’s remarks, Mpatane said they are not aware of what is going on. He said they just got what the coach was saying at the heat of the moment.

“As of now, we have not yet engaged with the coach but we are going to sit down with him to understand what sabotage he is referring to and who in particular is behind that sabotage.”

When quizzed why the coach did not arrive with the team on Wednesday following their camp in Morocco and why the coach was not available for a pre-match conference, Mpatane said the coach was engaged and it was his choice to use his car.

“During the press briefing the coach was addressing his players and we had the assistant coach to fill in for him. As for his arrival, he decided the technical team will need a car to run their errands and he chose to drive from Gaborone. There is nothing to it,” Mpatane said.
