Makalakalane has been accused of sexual harassment by two ex-Banyana players, Nthabiseng "Moemish" Matshaba and left-back Gloria "Gloss" Thato. He says he knows nothing about those allegations and has threatened to sue these players for defamation. In an exclusive interview with Sunday World this week, Matshaba said she was red-carded from the squad because she spurned Makalakalane's amorous advances. "I was fired for refusing to sleep with the coach," she says.

"He tried on several occasions to fondle me but I stopped him. I wouldn't give him the chance to do that." Matshaba says Makalakalane would wait for everyone to go to sleep when they were in camp.

"He would then call me to his room but I let him down by refusing to sleep with him. That led to our differences and he started making derogatory remarks about me in front of my colleagues.

"He also told me players from Soweto were big-headed and as long as he is the head coach, he won't select them for his squad," she says. Thato says she was jettisoned from the team in June after Makalakalane insulted her, telling her she was thin and not strong enough to play - despite 30 caps under her belt. "He also tried making sexual advances to me but I told him he was not my type. I see him as a father and nothing else," she said, adding that, "Makalakalane has no respect for women. I left the camp because of his stinking attitude towards the fairer sex. I won't play for Banyana again as long as he's the national coach."

Thato and Matshaba reveal they reported Makalakalane's licentiousness to their team manager, Fran Hilton-Smith. Hilton-Smith couldn't deny or confirm the claims. "I once heard a rumour but no one came forward with concrete claims,"she says. "Maybe the players were scared

to talk because they wanted to play.  If they'd approached me I could have helped them, but none of them told me anything." The under-siege coach, who failed to take Banyana to the 2011 Fifa Women's World Cup as they were eliminated in the semifinal of the CAF Women's Championship last weekend, is also accused by other ex-players of being a dictator who is rude, disrespectful and doesn't want lesbian footballers in his squad.

Linah "Jomo" Mosebo says Makalakalane treated lesbians in the team very badly. Mosebo, who was fired from the squad - she alleges because she was "too close" to Portia Modise - says Makalakalane wanted only young, straight girls in the team. She says in an SMS to the paper:"The coach says he doesn't want lesbians in his team, just young, straight girls.

He'd also swear at us and say he doesn't care about women's soccer because it is not going anywhere." Mosebo says he once told them he was only coaching them because there was nothing else out there for him to do and they were as useless as they come. "I personally spoke to the team manager about his conduct but nothing was done, while we kept on suffering from this monster," she says.

Modise, also a former Banyana player, verbally confirms Mosebo's claim that Makalakalane told them he didn't want lesbians in the team. She says: "It is true. He treated lesbians in an abusive manner, verbally insulting us in front of our teammates. He said he didn't want us in the team."

When Sunday World contacted Makalakalane, he threatened to sue the players for making disparaging allegations against him. "I will destroy them one by one because they're talking nonsense. I know who is behind this and I will deal with her," he says. (Sunday World)
