MAUN: After winning recognition from government, the Wayeyi will now pressurise government to abolish tribal territories in Botswana. The Tribal Territories Act defines tribal territories in Botswana. In May last year, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Slumber Tsogwane recognised Wayeyi as a tribe and was to consequently inaugurate Wayeyi paramount chief this month.

Wayeyi chief Fish Ozoo however passed away before the historic inauguration could take place.

Speaking during burial ceremony in Gumare recently, Tsogwane assured Wayeyi multitudes that his ministry will expedite the recognition of the newly chosen chief as the tribe’s paramount chief. Wayeyi are expected to choose a new chief this week.
