In an interview with Showbiz, BOSETU Publicity Secretary Edwin Maitshoko said the event would be hosted for the sixth year. He promised that just like the previous cultural events, this year’s event would be more thrilling.

He added that since the event showcases diverse cultures, people of different cultures, races and tribes are welcome to partake at the event.

“As teachers we are striving to promote culture. Botswana consists of multi-cultural people like the Indians, Chinese, Zambians, Zimbabweans and others. Therefore we invite them to come and share their cultures with us. The objective of this event is to exchange culture, learn cultures of different tribes and teach them our own,” he said.

Maitshoko pointed out that the revelers should wear their cultural attires for example the Indian communities can wear their saris, Batswana their German print attires.

Different food cuisines will be served on the night, including foods such as bogobe jwa lerotse, seswaa, dikgobe, serobe and others. However foods like pasta, rice and others would be served.

Sereetsi and The Natives, Culture Spears, BOSETU choir, BOSETU band and BOSETU traditional will keep the revelers entertained during the night.

“All three BOSETU groups are working tirelessly to make the night a success. As we speak they are camping and the preparations are going well so far. They have never disappointed and we believe they are going to keep the audience on their feet with their spectacular performances,” he

said.

He explained that the entertainment groups have been performing at their events throughout the year such as congresses, National Teachers Day and have been invited to perform at the Association of Non-Aligned Teachers Unions of Southern Africa (ANTUSA) games in South Africa, Lesotho and Zambia.

Maitshoko further explained that the money raised during the event would be donated to a selected needy person or charity organisation.

“BOSETU believes in social responsibility so on annual basis we give donations to the underprivileged members of our communities. We have previously built houses for needy people in Tsetsebjwe, Ghantsi and other villages. We have also donated computers, music instruments for people with visual impairment,” he said.

He said the guest speaker would be the former president of BOSETU, Shandukani Hlabano. Rraagwe Tinana, who is famed for his song Ba tlogele bamo nose, would be the MC of the night.

The event is open for the public and entrance fee is P500 per person and cooperate tickets of 10 per table are sold at P5,000.

However, tickets are reduced for BOSETU members at P350 each with a further special arrangement to enter the event and pay later.

“Our members who are interested in attending the event could make arrangements with the organising committee on when and how they will pay their entrance fee before the event,” Maitshoko explained.

The event would be held at Boipuso hall where security will be tightened.
