The Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) club championships that were held over the weekend meant a lot to Sensei George Tshikare and Sensei Peter Molefhe.

Mmegi Online :: Tshikare humbles Molefhe

The two coaches had a score to settle as the two former ‘buddies’ used to be the national team coaches, with Molefhe being the assistant. Things changed when Molefhe left Kofukan in 2014 and joined Hayashi-Ha and to add cherry on  top, he was appointed the national team head coach in 2016.

On the other hand, pride was at stake between Kofukan and Hayashi-Ha athletes who wanted to prove that they are the best. Pressure was on Kofukan who wanted to retain the championship. At the end of it all, Kofukan emerged the 2016 champions.

Tshikare told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the competition was more about him and Molefhe. He said it was all about who had come with a better plan and a better team.

“I am happy that my teams were on point. Starting with the youth and the seniors. One thing that used to work against us was sending our clubs to the tournament while others brought federations to compete against our clubs, so this time were played according to their plans,” he said.

Regarding the officiating that seemed to keep disrupting some of the matches, Tshikare said he had advised his team to forget about the officials and focus on the game plan. He said it is a normal practice that officials can spoil a tournament.

Tshikare explained that his team relied on the experience of Oratile Caiphus, Mpho Bosenakitso and Kabelo Molefe. He admitted that the absence of Thato Malunga had an impact because she is always a winner and she motivates her teammates.
