Tswaipe Slaps BOPEU With Sick Note

It seems no end is in sight in the saga involving the Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) and its head of Education and Research, Edward Tswaipe.

The Monitor :: Tswaipe Slaps BOPEU With Sick Note

His disciplinary hearing appears to be dragging on and on after Tswaipe last week frustrated the process with a sick leave note that has since suspended the action until today, barring the unforeseen.

BOPEU had planned to launch the disciplinary action against Tswaipe a fortnight ago but he rushed to  the Industrial Court, forcing postponement of the process with an urgent application.

The Monitor gathers that even after losing the Court case and  all that remained was proceeding straight to the hearing, Tswaipe pulled another trick from  the hat as he spent most of the time heckling about faces in the disciplinary hearing panel he did not want as part of the panel. He also argued that he needed more time to prepare adequately, something that he ultimately won, as he  was granted a few extra days, up to Wednesday last week to be precise,

to prepare himself.

However, ahead of the d-day,, Tswaipe turned tables on BOPEU with a sick note that meant that there was no hearing against him until today, barring the unforeseen.

Meanwhile, Tswaipe may be losing friends and potential witnesses in the case. The Monitor learns that some have since kissed and made up with BOPEU leadership, paving the way for the organisation to crack a stinging whip on Tswaipe without  any fear of  backlash from  some influential sympathisers to  his cause.

Tswaipe’s disciplinary action emanates from  a Facebook discussion in a closed group of 14 of  the Union’s influencial leaders at branch, regional and secretariat level who allegedly used the closed group to discuss  wide-ranging  sensitive issues.

Meanwhile, Tswaipe’s social media activity on the matter appears to have mellowed in recent days after putting on a defiant spirit via his social media page.
