Since last year IDM has pledged their support towards BOSSA national educational fairs, which among others include debate on current affairs and art as a way of developing students in their creative and thinking capacity.

This year’s BOSSA-IDM 2016 national fair held under the theme, “Human resource Development- A Drive Towards a Proud and United Nation” was a two-day affair at Kagiso Senior Secondary School in Ramotswa.

In his  keynote address on Saturday, deputy permanent secretary for policies and programmes in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Oupa Masesane said educational fairs were important as they enable students to become effective contributors through partnership and teamwork.

He explained that fairs within the curriculum were core as they motivate learners to research and discuss issues of social, political, economic and cultural importance.

“Students think creatively and independently to make reasoned evaluations allowing them to hone analytical abilities. It nurtures research and build effective communication skills while also using technology,” he said.

Masesane said fairs were crucial as they encouraged responsible citizens who are able

to evaluate major issues such as advances in the technological and scientific communities in the process helping to develop views on complex issues.

He said fairs like these also inspire confidence in the youth.

“Fairs, through debates, allow students to articulate and advocate their own beliefs. Pupils who debate tend to be better communicators. It also makes people aware of the type of audience they are speaking to,” Masesane said.

IDM regional director, Richard Malikongwa said the partnership was going to run for five years.

He explained that the two parties entered into ‘adoption’ and partnership aimed at helping the association with financial aid and most importantly with skills.

Malikongwa said it was important for them as IDM to pledge their support to BOSSA as a way of developing future leaders.

“We are an institution that believes in education and skills transfer and BOSSA was a perfect platform to support them in their efforts to create students that are confident and creative. Therefore our support goes beyond the financial benefits,” he said.
