MAUN: Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) residents will not enjoy the Botswana’s 50-year anniversary as government fails to provide enough money for their celebrations.

The area councillor Bashi Thiite has accused government of deliberately cutting out residents of CKGR from celebrating BOT50.  As part of government policy, residents living in settlements such as CKGR are excluded from celebrating independence in their settlements.

The arrangement is that residents must travel to the gazette areas which are covered for the independence budget. Thiite said: “Residents in CKGR wanted to celebrate BOT50 within the reserve. They are tired of always having to travel to Gantsi to celebrate independence.” However, he said residents will not be able to celebrate the 50 years of independence as they would have liked due to the arrangement.
