The Monitor :: Southern District Spends P11 Million On Phaphatha

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Samane/Mokhomma last week, District Chairman Mephato Reatile said the money is only spend on feeding 69, 000 workers who work on three months rotational basis annually.

The feeding scheme was introduced in 2013 as snack meal and the tenders are awarded to individuals who cater for three months on rotational basis.

Today the Ipelegeng workers’ meal has improved to entail bogobe and relish. There has been observations that the Ipelegeng workers’ wages were too low and there has been calls by political leaders to pressurise the government to increase such.

However, the government rather introduced the feeding scheme to enhance the workers diet during working hours.

some beneficiaries have praised the programme others complain that the duration (three months) is too short to make any meaningful difference in their lives.

For one to secure enrolment, there is a toss conducted to select the candidate. On the surface the Ipelegeng feeding scheme is seen as a relief to hundreds of people, especially the benefiaries who would be benefitting from serving the employees.

Another P37 million is used to pay wage bills to 5,756 workers monthly, which is calculated to be 69, 000 annually.

The money is divided among 19 villages in the district which covers areas from Tshidilamolomo to Mogonye  and from Tlhareseleele to Morwamusu.
