President Ian Khama says there was a time when he thought the aviation business in the country was stagnant until a number of activities started within the local industry. Khama was speaking at the graduation ceremony for 27 young pilots trained under the IAS-Aviation Academy at the Flying Mission Club near the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport recently.

Khama said by then, there was not much in terms of the aviation infrastructure development. The President said there is currently a  number of aviation projects going on in areas such as Shakawe, Gumare and mining areas such as Sowa town. “I think there is now a lot of progress in aviation infrastructure development,” the President, who is a trained pilot,  told dignitaries at the ceremony.

He said there has also been a lot of progress in the aviation business in terms of a number of annual aviation events that take place in the country. Khama gave examples of aviation shows such as the Matsieng Air Show, Gaborone International Air Show, Race for Rhinos and the Makgadikgadi Epic that he said attract a number of people and therefore boost the business sector in the country.
