Police bust 24 poachers at Lake Ngami

MAUN: Twenty-four illegal fishers were busted in the Okavango Delta on Thursday night. Maun police assistant station commander, superintendent Oarabile Hulela confirmed the arrests.

Hulela said the fishers, who include a group of men and women, were arrested by Wildlife scouts in the Okavango Delta. He said the group had camped in a tourism concession area and fished without a permit. Hulela explained that stacks of dried and fresh fish were recovered from the mob as evidence. He further explained that three vans including two landcruisers and a Hilux that the group used have been impounded as evidence.

Hulela revealed that the group was given varying fines ranging from P200-P300 per person after they pleaded guilty for fishing without a permit.
