Botswana’s swimming sensation, David van der Colff failed to make it to the next stage of the men’s 100 metres backstroke despite finishing third in the heats at the ongoing Olympics games in Brazil.

Colff, making his debut at the Olympics did well on Sunday and finished behind Turkmenistan’s Merdan Atayev and Timothy Wynter of Jamaica who scooped positions one and two reepectively in Heat one of the category. He finished ahead of four other swimmers in this Heat.

However his time of 57.77 was not enough for him to progress to the next stage. Sixteen other swimmers in other heats registered better times and progressed to the next stage ahead of him.
