GU still battling for Zapata�s return

However the club found itself faced with acute financial problems following the departure of investor, Nicholas Zakhem recently, leaving the management struggling with the players and coach’s salary. Zapata recently confirmed his willingness to come back and build onto what he started last season as the club seeks to challenge for honours this coming season. Now the club through their official Facebook page confirmed the coach has spoken to the executive committee and is willing to return. The club said the management is currently working around the clock to secure a sponsorship so that they can lure him back. His short stint last season was immediately felt. He spelt out his plans and made recommendations regarding some of the players he wanted. Some of the players that have already left the club are midfielder, Ntesang Simanyana who has joined Township Rollers. The club has also confirmed the departure of defenders, Gaopatwe Seosenyeng and Osego Gaotewe. The latter is already training with new comers, Security Systems. GU have also confirmed that left back, Katlego Koobake has asked to be released after joining them last season from Extension Gunners. His stay at GU was hindered by an injury, which kept him on the sidelines for some time. His return from injury found Edwin Olerile in fine form and had to battle for a starting berth. He is linked with a return to the Peleng giants.

In Zapata’s absence, the team has been drilled by former player, Stephen Maposa who was Zapata’s assistant last season. Goalkeeper coach, Khalid Niyonzima is said to have received his work permit and ready to start his job. The club will hold its annual general meeting on August 6 in Palapye where they are expected to discuss a number of issues including the search for a sponsor.
