Zambian Held For Human Trafficking, Sex Slavery

LOBATSE: Chief Magistrate Mareledi Dipate on Thursday denied a 20-year old Zambian, Kelvi ‘Thela’ Banda bail, in a case where he faces two counts of promoting human trafficking of three children and allegedly sexually exploiting one of them.

Banda was arrested on  June 7, in Pitsane village for allegedly promoting the trafficking of a 15-year old girl and an 18-year old boy, both of Zambian  nationality, to South Africa.

On count two, Banda was intercepted allegedly attempting to exploit, harbour and  traffic  from Zambia to South Africa, another girl of 14 years. The 14-year old, was allegedly sexually assaulted in the process but the police have not yet opened a case of sexual exploitation against the accused as their investigations into the matter are still fresh.
