PS worried about payments of ghost employees

PALAPYE: The permanent secretary (PS) in the ministry of agriculture (MoA), Boipolelo Khumomatlhare has expressed concern over former ministry employees who are still being paid even after death or retirement.

Speaking at the MoA Excellence Awards on Friday in Palapye, Khumomatlhare said paying ghost employees is an indication that MoA leadership has poor supervision. “It is very worrisome that some former employees are still being paid even after death while some are paid after retirement. But it is quite clear that these people serve notice three months before their retirement. Things are happening in our faces. This is a sign of poor supervision. It shows that we are not taking our jobs seriously. My office is not taking such issues kindly,” he said.

Khumomatlhare further said that there is a clear sign that those who are working at the districts lack supervision. He said even though there is shortage of equipment the ministry is doing its best to better the situation.
