The Tertiary Education Council (TEC) has come a long way in transforming and establishing a competitive tertiary education sector, Patrick Molutsi has said.

Speaking at a press conference held at Boipuso Hall in Gaborone on the eve of the Botswana Tertiary Education Fair 2010 (BTEF), the TEC executive Secretary said they have worked very hard for the past six years in establishing a system that would serve the country well. He said when they started, the institutions were totally inadequate and in shambles.  Molutsi said they have put in place a comprehensive regulatory system with all the tertiary institutions, under the authority of the TEC. He revealed that they have regulations that focus on the registration of the institutions while there are also regulations that are focusing on  the ongoing accreditation process for the programmes.

"Through the regulatory framework that we have in place we are working on improving and upholding the quality of programmes offered in these institutions," he said.
