Sebola is facing a charge of stealing by person employed in the public service while Seriteww is charged with receiving stolen property. Yesterday, Magistrate Ntombizodwa Ncube granted the two accused persons bail of P5,000 on their own recognance and two sureties each on the same amount. The other conditions are that the accused should not interfere with possible state witnesses and also report to the Central Police Station once every two weeks.
The duo spent the weekend at the First Offenders’ Prison after the police had successfully applied for their remand on Friday evening. They argued that they were unable to conduct the search following chaos caused by members of the media and the general public. On Friday members of the media had the city centre at a standstill protesting over Serite’s detention. Members of the Special Support Group (SSG) were called to the Central Police Station to control the situation. They came armed, in the process threatening to use ‘force’ to disperse the media practitioners who were joined by members of the public.
