The football fraternity is mourning the death of one of Botswana’s greats, Thero Gaadingwe, who passed away this week. A memorial service was held for him at the National Stadium yesterday evening.

Gaadingwe, whose cause of death was unknown at the time of going to press, will be laid to rest today in Gaborone. He leaves behind a lasting legacy, having played for one of the big guns, Gaborone United (GU), though for a short while in the 1990s.

He burst into the scene at the same time with the likes of Diphetogo Selolwane and Tshepiso Molwantwa, among others. He was part of the national Under 17 team that qualified for the African Championship in 1995. The team included the likes of Seabo Gabanakgosi, Selolwane, Molwantwa and Desmond Hambira.
