Confusion over BOKA committees term

Some Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) affiliates are in the dark over the length of the executive committee’s term after elections held last year.

Others argue the committee was never given a mandate to stay in office for the full two years, but to complete the previous leadership’s term. The previous committee quit before their time in office elapsed. Other affiliates say the committee was given a fresh mandate to run the full two years. According to a source, the committee has failed to seek affiliates’ mandate to stay in office for two years. He said it means they have to complete the term of the previous committee.

The source said the BOKA constitution is quiet in that regard.  He said it was up to the committee to ask for a new term when they came into office, but they have not done so.  He said this could be as a result of the upcoming BOKA ordinary meeting where the issue is likely to crop up.  The source said it would be up to the affiliates to decide, adding their performance since assuming power will be considered.
