South African wins inaugural snooker title

South African snooker player, Ishmael Mthethwa is the winner of the inaugural snooker challenge that was held at the Paddock in Gaborone on Saturday. The South African pocketed P50,000 while a Motswana, Ndulamo Dash Mathumo came second and went home P16,000 richer. Dominance by foreigners continued as Lindani Gumpo finished third and got P10,000.

Local events management company, Earth Life Africa organised the first ever snooker challenge.

Mthethwa won the tournament after beating Mathumo 3-2 in the final. He told Mmegi Sport yesterday the tournament was tough as every player wanted to walk away with the grand prize. He said he had to fight hard to snatch the title. The 24-year-old said he has been playing snooker from a young age and has never looked back.
