Man arrested for saying Mugabe is old

CORRESPONDENT
HARARE: A Zimbabwean man spent two nights behind bars last month after allegedly saying President Robert Mugabe read the wrong speech in parliament because he was "old", rights lawyers said.

According to myzimbabwe.co.zw,  28-year-old James Mwaya was arrested after a councillor from the ruling Zanu PF party accused of him insulting Mugabe during an altercation.

This is the second arrest under anti-insult laws reported in the last week.

The incident came to light after Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)

group released a statement about it.

Apparently Mwaya told the councillor: "Mugabe is old. He can no longer stand. That is why he read a wrong speech." Mwaya was referring to when the 91-year-old president opened parliament last month, rereading a speech he had already made.
