Tshekedi, Mokaila reject Masisi

At least five cabinet Ministers defied protocol to back fellow vice president Mokgweetsi Masisi for the chairmanship of the Botswana Democratic Party Mmadinare over the weekend.

Though sailing through to beat five other candidates, Masisi failed to get the backing of President Ian Khama’s brother and minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism Tshekedi Khama, who endorsed Tebelelo Seretse. Also snubbing Masisi was the minister of Mineral, Energy and Water Affairs, Kitso Mokaila, who supported Ramadeluka Ndelu Seretse.

Also defying the norm was Minister Dorcus Makgato, who took a principled position of backing a fellow woman, Tebelelo Seretse. Makgato is BDP Women’s League chairperson.
