Bana Ba Botswana, a charitable trust founded by the Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka in Botswana, will be launched on Sir Seretse Khama Day, July, 1, 2015.

Deputy Speaker and MP for Gaborone South, Kagiso Molatlhegi will officially launch the trust at their offices in Bontleng. The trust, which is run by a board of trustees consisting of seven members, was registered on November 28 last year.

Chula Dahanayake, honorary Consul of Sri Lanka said that the objective of the trust is to work for the welfare of children in Botswana. “The trust aims to uphold and strive to achieve the ideals contained in the African Charter on the rights and welfare of children adopted in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on July 1990 and entered into force on November 1999,” he said. Dahanayake also said that among others Bana Ba Botswana should assist in the development of institutions, facilities and services for care of children as well as provide educational support. “
