Berbatov stars for Man Utd, Blues cruise

Dimitar Berbatov's first Manchester United hat-trick settled a pulsating 3-2 clash with Liverpool in which Sir Alex Ferguson's side yet again threw away a two-goal advantage.

Berbatov had struck either side of the interval, the second a brilliant overhead kick, to seemingly ensure a home win over their greatest rivals. But, just as they did at Goodison Park last week, United's defence capitulated, Steven Gerrard scoring with a penalty and a free-kick before Berbatov came to the hosts' rescue six minutes from time. Chelsea stayed top with a 4-0 win over Blackpool and it was all too easy for the reigning champions.

Salomon Kalou put the Blues up 1-0 inside two minutes when he tapped home a Didier Drogba corner at the far post. Florent Malouda then finished off a three-man move to make it two in the 12th minute.
