Two children drown in Mmadiphiri River

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Botshabelo Police are investigating an incident in which a four-year toddler and a seven-year-old boy drowned in Mmadiphiri River behind Selebi mine shaft last Friday evening.

Acting Station Commander Assistant Superintendent, Othusitse Zikhale said his office received a report of drowning on Saturday morning and they went to the scene and managed to retrieve the bodies. “The victims were in the company of their 51-year-old father when the Toyota Hilux they were traveling in got stuck in the middle of the river.

“A high density of water flow as a result of the rains that fell earlier caught up with them and overpowered them,” he said.
