Makgalema surprised attendees when he dished out an electrifying sermon during a thanksgiving conference hosted by Bible Life Ministries last week Thursday. The church has committed to launching a memorable event for the town and is currently in negotiations with Botswana Tourism and other stakeholders.

“I came to Phikwe through an invitation by pastor Macdonald Ndlovu who asked me to come and encourage believers to give thanks to God. I am still exploring this town and I am greatly honoured by the gesture of the people in this town.

They are loving, peace loving and kind,” said Makgalema.

He said it is a great honor for him to be part of people God uses to deliver his word on his people. “I am not born out of virgin Mary, but God managed to take out something in me despite my painful background,” he added.

Makgalema contested in the ‘I want to sing Gospel’ talent search in 2008. He then joined Joyous Celebration group in 2009 before releasing his own album towards the end of the same year. He also became part of Spirit of Praise group that also comprised of gospel music giants Solly Mahlangu and Benjamin Dube.

Makgalema who is also an entrepreneur and a father of two boys later started his own music company called Kgotso Makgalema Entertainment.

“ My first visit to Botswana was in Gaborone sometime ago and I met three recording gospel artists and my advice to Batswana is that they should begin to love and support their own artists because there are good artists here. It is also important for artists to be open to development.”

“They should not judge themselves on how they do music

because it differs from country to country. They must display their original talent not to compete with South African artists because even us South Africans cannot beat Americans but we simply do what we know. Botswana gospel singers must focus on their own strong-points,” he explained.

Makgalema attracted huge support as a preacher during the conference especially for this who were not aware that he is also a pastor so much that wish to be like him. During his illustrative sermon, he advised his supporters that they should not wish to be great preachers, but they should work for their dreams to come true.

“Dreams are unique and, possible and do come to pass. The recipe for achieving a dream is to focus, work hard and also smart work,” he said.

Before cutting his teeth into preaching, Makgalema went for training for four years where he did both theory and practical. He said the latter was the most challenging part of the training.

Makgalema said he was honoured that his sermons were received positively and said he has realised that the community here was attentive and very disciplined as compared to other places where there is usually a pandemonium.

Makgalema’s mother was only 15 years old when he gave birth to him a thing the proves that his background is not rosy.

“I was raised under an atmosphere characterised by anti-social issues and it was bad when I learnt about it as I grew up. In the midst of that experience I did not look at my past because it does not define who I am, but I focus on the positives I see in life,” he noted.
