The Monitor :: The YAMAs add to the entertainment glitz and glamour

The night belonged to the musicians who have wowed their fans with their talent and many of the local musicians and DJs there walked away with prizes.

In every way, the YAMAs are what our fledgling music industry needs. It is pleasing to read that the organisers of the YAMAs would like to see them playing on channels like Btv, e-Botswana, and DStv  in an effort to market local talent.

The fact that the organisers have been able to raise funds for this event also speaks volume about the commitment of the corporate sector in partnering with the YAMAs to bring about the spectacular event.

We can never be content with just one music awards- the BOMUs; the industry needs more of this event, and the Yarona FM’s bold ambition must be applauded.

All over the world, it is the tradition for radio stations, television channels magazines and, newspapers spearhead industry-related awards.

The awards also go a long way towards stimulating some level of economic growth:  The hospitality industry, event management

companies and night clubs, to name a few, are all examples of industries that stand to gain from such a huge event.

It is also about fashion and lifestyle and the event provides that opportunity for the fashion-forward to put on their best choices for a special event such as the YAMAs.

We can only hope that the following YAMAs will grow from strength to strength, reflecting our ambitions as a nation and the size of our economy.

The YAMAs bring the number of music awards held in Botswana to two. This should not be seen as competition to the BOMUs; they are rather complimentary and can each draw from the strength and success of the other.

Indeed having just one music award event in the country can sometimes be frustrating for an artist.  They now have a wider choice. platform to display their skills on. Let us hope that all things permitting, other players will follow suit and add to the glitzy and glamourous events in Botswana.
