Mmegi Online :: Olefile crowned Miss Botho F/town 2014/15

The 21-year-old Botho University student from Makanana ward in the cosmopolitan royal village of Serowe bagged the crown ahead of seven contestants who were vying for the same title. Charlotte Siya (24) and 20-year-old Angel Nkau were crowned first and second princess respectively.

As part of her prize, Olefile was treated to two free nights accommodation at Adansonia Hotel and lunch for two at Tandurei Restaurant situated at Galo Mall.

The stunning Olefile could not hold back tears of joy when she was announced as the winner on the night, which attracted mostly students from the university. The second year Associated Accounts Technician (AAT) student said the announcement marked the beginning of a painstaking journey of trying to change the attitude of her fellow students at Botho University Francistown campus. She said she was worried about the high prevalence of pregnancy among students. She noted that she had observed that many female students were focused on romantic relationships instead of directing their energies

towards their studies and career advancement.

“Many (female) students are falling pregnant here at Botho College. My main focus will be on changing the attitude of females here. Their health and independence should come first. We are living in the era of incurable but preventable HIV/AIDS. Young women must be empowered to make positive choices with regard to their health,” Olefile said.

Botho University Francistown campus’ Minister of Finance in the Student Representative Committee, Pusetso ‘Maofex’ Ntobatsang, said Olefile would draft a proposal on the projects she was expected to spearhead during her reign. Most of these projects are aimed at ensuring that students understand and appreciate the importance of education.

“Some students are only at school because they want to receive a monthly allowance. There is need to change the attitudes of such students, especially those who drink, smoke and engage in unprotected sexual liaisons. The beauty pageant winners will raise awareness on the many issues which affect students,” said Nthobatsang.
