A great treat for shoppers

Shoppers were treated to a week of shopping courtesy of the Johannesburg Shopping Festival (JSF) last week. This was the first full-blown edition of the festival after several trials had been done in recent years.

The festival took place in and around Sandton City, and the Oriental Plaza, which are amongst Johannesburg’s busiest shopping centres from October 30 to November 2, 2014.

Though the festival was a showcase of the best the city has to offer from high-end fashion to must–have bargains that included everything from clothes, bags, shoes, jewellery, electronics, and fabric to homewares and more. All shoppers had to do was spend a minimum of R200 or more at any participating retail store and stand a chance to win a shopping spree worth R30,000.  Over 50 shops participated in the JSF and these included shops like Nine West, Topshop, Guess, La Senza, Adidas, Due South, Aldo, Mango and Levi’s amongst others.

The festival was officially opened in

Sandton City by South African television personality, Lorato Kganyago, who directed the proceedings and kept those present interested on Wednesday.  A fashion showcase followed the official opening by some of Joburg’s young and upcoming designers.  Amongst those present at the event was a notable kwaito figure, Mdu Masilela, who looked fresh, glowing, in shape and young for a man his age.

As a part of JSF there was also a visit to Jozi’s Fashion District.  The district houses more than 300 fashion-related micro businesses with seamstresses and tailors from across Southern Africa.   The place is famous for its ability to supply all kinds of fabric and anything fashion-related to all the designers in South Africa including the best of the best.
