Multitudes throng BCP mega rally

Tsaone Basimanebotlhe 2013-10-01 16:31:00
Multitudes of Botswana Congress Party (BCP) supporters thronged the GSS grounds on Saturday for their mother of all rallies, themed the Mega Rally.

The mega rally was organised to celebrate the end of the BCP presidential tour bus. BCP president Dumelang Saleshando started his tour on the September 20th and ended on Saturday.

Saleshando said they had covered 53 villages missing only four villages scheduled for the tour.

“It was not easy as many may think. But this marks the end of “Re a fenya bus tour”. We held 73 mini rallies, six launches, star rallies and we managed to convince people to vote BCP. Indeed our party is growing and no one can doubt it,” Saleshando said.

Their reason for celebration was that they managed to campaign aggressively in areas where the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) had never thought opposition parties could reach.  Out of 57 constituencies, BCP did not only field in four of them.

On Saturday the mega rally saw the BCP spending

more than  P50,000 for the services of an event management . They also had two marquee tents that cost P60,000. Two  giant power  generators were also hired. A presidential lounge for the Saturday rally  cost around P200,000. Four motorbikes, hired for P2000. came escorting the presidential bus at the grounds.

The BCP  had also hired 13 toilets, booked a South African gospel  super star Kgomotso Makgalema for  P40,000 who from time to time  excited the multitudes with his tunes.

The BCP also unveiled a new campaign theme “Bring Back our Jobs”. With only four days before elections. The theme  is strategically coined to position the BCP as the solution to unemployment crisis.

The mega rally started in the morning around 8:30am with a motorcade that covered most of Gaborone areas and ended 1200 hours as members were going for lunch.
