Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) has cautioned Orange Botswana against dismissing or retrenching employees without consultation. The federation said if retrenchments happen, they should be respectable packages on offer.

“We further call upon Orange Botswana to re-open negotiations with the affected employees in an endeavour to amicably resolve this impasse. BOFEPUSU and its affiliates would like to warn Orange Botswana that if this impasse is not amicably resolved, and Orange Botswana continues to trample upon the rights of these employees, we will be left with no option but to consider very seriously, the relationships that each of the affiliate unions has with Orange Botswana,” BOFEPUSU secretary general Tobokani Rari said in a press release yesterday.

Rari said they are concerned that an Orange Botswana employee was unfairly dismissed last year but the company refused to reinstate him despite a declaration by the Commissioner of Labour that his dismissal was unlawful.
