Police report

The police have recorded a total of 309 road traffic accidents in which seven people lost their lives, while 19 were seriously injured and 44 sustained minor injuries.

This shows a slight increase from 300 accidents recorded during the previous week. Meanwhile, the number of people who have lost their lives due to road accidents this year has increased as compared to the previous two years. At least 43 people have lost their lives since January this year as compared to 36 and 40 in 2009 and 2008 respectively.

In one notable incident, a three year old boy of Mmopane village died after he fell and was overrun by a motor vehicle he was a passenger in.  In another incident in Gaborone, a 56-year old South African man died after losing control of the motor vehicle he was driving.
