UDC, BCP hold conferences

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) will hold nationwide party conferences to discuss their readiness for the upcoming general elections over the weekend.

UDC chairman Motlatsi Molapise says they are making efforts to reach out to voters across various constituencies. “Although we began our campaigns late we still want to know the challenges our supporters are faced with on the ground. We have targeted 25 constituencies but our members will tell us how many constituencies they think we can win,” Molapisi said. Prioritised on the agenda is feedback from party structures and clarification over the party symbol to be used during elections.

He emphasised that their affiliates Botswana National Front (BNF), Botswana People’s Party (BPP) and Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) will use the UDC symbol during elections. Molapisi noted that despite limited resources they are positive that they will perform better than in the last general elections. BCP spokesperson Taolo Lucas said they will discuss progress on their campaigns and assess their readiness for elections adding that it is important to engage members at grassroots level in order to ascertain possible challenges that may hamper efforts to reach their set targets.
