Eight SEZs identified

Eight sites have been earmarked for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the country, Trade and Industry minister Dorcas Makgato-Malesu told parliament last week.

Answering a question from Shoshong Member of Parliament Phillip Makgalemele, who wanted to know the progress in establishing the economic hubs, the minister said that significant progress has been made with regards to the establishment of SEZs following a comprehensive study conducted in 2012.  SEZs are created as geographically distinct economic areas with their own administrative authority, which provides an investor-friendly business environment. The eight sites identified include Sir Seretse Khama International Airport and Fair grounds in Gaborone, Lobatse, Selebi –Phikwe, Pandamatenga, Palapye, Francistown and Tuli Block.
