FRANCISTOWN: Botswana will hold its first national motocross championship in Francistown next weekend. The Botswana Motor Sports has earned the right to host the event after it affiliated to Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

Previously, Botswana was under Motor Sport South Africa. In the new dispensation, Lobelo Racing Club Francistown (LRCF) will host the very first national motocross event in the country.

“This race will be attended by riders from Gaborone, Maun and Francistown and will consist of classes ranging from the most junior (four years old) to the faster more experienced riders in the MX1 class,” said Lobelo secretary, Lola Berrie. In recent weeks, the LRCF committee has been working hard to rehabilitate an old motocross track at Dumela to host the event. It now has a new 50cc track for riders from the age of four to eight on both two wheel motorcycles and quads.
