The Botswana Congress Party president Dumelang Saleshando has revealed that they have fielded seven women to contest for Parliament in the coming general elections. Speaking during a press conference on Monday, Saleshando proudly stated that they were the party with the highest number of women candidates, and that they did this as a way of addressing issues of gender balance.

“We are the only party that has made it to this number while others failed to do so. We are going to assist these women to ensure that they win constituencies that they are contesting in. More women will also come up in the 2019 elections,” he said.

The seven women are party chairman Motsei Rapelana (Gaborone North), Dr Habaudi Hobona (Francistown West), Tiny Kojane (Mmathete-Molapowabojang), Annah Motlhagodi (Gaborone Bonnington North), Mariah Molebatsi-Kusasa (Tati East), Daisy Bathusi (Boteti East) and Masego Motswakhumo (Serowe North).
