Peace and good governance crucial Motlanthe

Former president of South Africa Kgalema Motlanthe, has said peace and good governance, children’s welfare and alternatives in agriculture are of cardinal importance in the context of African’s challenge of growth and development.

“The concepts of peace and good governance are not just important for Africa’s development but indispensable. This is all the more reason the youth’s location in the sphere of peace building and contributing to good governance is of exceptional importance,” he said.

Motlanthe said this at the Sir Ketumile Masire Foundation fundraising dinner at GICC on Friday. He said good governance strives to minimise the scourge of corruption and takes on board all views, including those of political minorities. He said if young people are to make a difference in running public affairs in a clean and effective way, their levels of education would need to be commensurate with the demands of the task.  He said the youth of Africa will need to receive good quality education in areas such as public administration to equip them with the necessary intellectual tools to measure up to the demands of running modern public institutions and systems to achieve set objectives.
