Botswana‘s first business journalists club was launched in Gaborone this week with the aim to improve the quality of economic and financial reporting in the country.

Sponsored by asset management company, Afena Capital with support from Botswana Confederation of Commerce Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM) and Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), the club was officially launched by Trade and Industry minister Dorcas Makgato-Malesu.

Speaking at the launch, Afena managing director Bakang Seretse said that the business press club would serve as a vehicle to bridge the gap between the worlds of media reporting and business and also to give more public insight.  “This was also in recognition that the media has a vibrant role to play in promoting business and the economic development of our country. We hope to work together to improve the level of business journalism in the country. “As Afena, we have pledged to sponsor monthly conferences where experts will be invited to present on a variety of economic topics and interact with the media,” he said.
