No foul play as 87-year-old kills wife

Police say the recent fatal shooting of an 80-year-old woman near Dutlwe by her 87-year-old husband bears all the hallmarks of an accident. The shooting occurred at Khane lands, five kilometres from Dutlwe. The police spokesperson, Christopher Mbulawa, said preliminary investigations point to an accidental shooting and no murder docket would be opened.

He said the incident took place as the old couple walked from one field to another. “They were travelling from one field to the other when they decided to rest under a tree. The old man apparently rested the gun against the tree and when he lifted it up, it accidentally discharged, clearing the chamber and a bullet hitting the 80-year-old woman on the waist, before travelling upwards. She died instantly,” he explained.
