Internationals Mompati Thuma and Nelson Gabolwelwe; and two midfield king pins Patrick Motsepe and Masego Ntshingane are likely to be in action for BDF XI when the match kicks-off at 4pm.
Although the likes of Mosalagae 'City' Gaborone had a good game against ECCO, it was clear that the absence of Motsepe and Ntshingane left a void in the Matebele midfield. Motsepe has been a consistent performer for BDF XI for a long time and although he has been called to the national team on a number of occasions, he has never been given a chance to prove his mettle at the Zebras. Before the start of the season, BDF XI made an important acquisition when they signed former international Ntshingane from neighbours, Mogoditshane Fighters.
The players' ability to read the game and deliver perfect passes was clearly missed by BDF XI last Saturday. While Motsepe was attending to social problems, Ntshingane was injured and rock solid defender, Thuma, was serving suspension after being red-carded against Township Rollers.
Both goals scored by ECCO city were a result of porous defending by BDF XI and Thuma is likely to form a solid partnership once again with Donald Thobega. The return of speedy winger, Gabolwelwe will also add spark to BDF XI's attacking prowess. Coach Stanley Mwaanga said that the return of the quartet will be a major boost for his side. He added that GU and BDF XI have been doing well and therefore, he expects a tough but interesting match. "GU are a very good side.
They have signed very good players and their midfield and striking force is very good," he said. BDF XI will be pinning their hopes on the on-form Thatayotlhe Gaokgorwe. The striker is the leading goalscorer in the Premier League with seven goals. He has settled very quickly at BDF XI after arriving from Prisons XI.
GU coach, Mike Sithole said that preparations for the Sunday game have been normal. He said they will treat BDF XI like any other team they have played against. He said the morale is high and his charges are focused on the game.
GU have been banging in a lot of goals and so far they have 17. Sithole said there is no special secret he is using and his players are competing for positions, which is very good. He only announces the first 11 on the last day and everybody wants to do well when he gets a chance to play. Except for those in the national Under-20 side, Sithole is likely to have all his players for the match.
The men to watch in the GU line-up are Itayi Gwandu, Tshepo 'Schoolboy' Molefe and Ronald Chikomo. The duo have been in scintillating form and each scored a brace when GU hammered Nico United 6-1 last Saturday in Selebi-Phikwe.
