Credit where it is due

Each second of the day can easily be filled with a different, unique complaint against policymakers and government, from governance efficiencies to service delivery.

It is thus, refreshing, when government policy and action so resoundingly succeed, particularly in partnership with the private and civic sectors, such as is the case with the HIV/AIDS miracle in Botswana.

Last week, statisticians revealed that there are more people living with the disease in Botswana than at any other point in the country’s history, since the epidemic exploded onto local shores in the 1980s. The statistic could be seen as macabre or at the least negative, but what it actually means is that more Batswana are surviving and living with HIV/AIDS as opposed to dying from it.
