Threats by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to lock the door permanently on members who contest elections as independents appear not to have achieved the desired effect.


BDP members are still trooping out to become mekoko following the controversial party primaries that resulted in an unprecedented number of protests and re-runs. Two days after the party passed the resolution to shun independent candidates at its National Council meeting, two BDP councillors from Mahalapye East constituency have tendered their resignation.
