The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has resolved not to welcome back members who after losing party primary elections, resigned and stood as independent candidates.

During the weekend national council meeting, the party resolved to shun mekoko, as independent candidates in the general elections are known.

In the aftermath of their primary elections, otherwise know as Bulela Ditswe, the BDP, for the first time in their 51 years of existence, saw a high number of disgruntled losers declaring their intention to stand as independent candidates or defect to the opposition.
