Motswana actress stars in Generations

One of the best talents to come out of Botswana Lerato Motshwarakgole is making a name for herself in the acting industry.

Currently based in Johannesburg, Motshwarakgole has landed herself a role with one of Mzansi's popular soapies, Generations.

In a telephone interview, the budding actress reveals that she will be playing the role of Zimbini Plhaole who will be Dineo Mashaba's half sister. She says that they are half sisters who share a father. Asked about her character Motshwarakgole said: "That is all I can say for now about my character because of the arrangement that I have with Generations." She however, went on to reveal that she started shooting for the scenes on Monday.

She said that though the shooting is underway she will not appear on screen immediately but her character will be introduced to the viewers in the next three months. She explained that the soapie pre-shoots scenes for upcoming episodes. The obviously elated actress said that her character would be onscreen for two months after which the producers would decide whether to expand it. She

added that the expansion on her role would depend on issues such as the ratings of the show.

She said she is delighted at being a part of a production like Generations.A performer by profession, Motshwarakgole says that she has been working on a few theatre productions. She said that she has been pushing to bring some of the theatre pieces to Botswana and hopes to achieve that because "Donald Molosi, through his play: Blue, Black and White - which has received international recognition - managed to even showcase the play in Botswana.

Motshwarakgole has an honours degree in Theatre and Performance from the University of Cape Town (UCT).

She combines both the stage (theatre acts) and television pieces. Some of her accomplishments include Yvonne Banning and Kana awards in theatre, which she regards highly. She has also appeared in a few television commercials and has had television roles in Silent Witness, Stokvel and Mzansi Love: Kasi Style.
