Elderly rape suspect granted bail

FRANCISTOWN: A 59-year-old man facing a charge of rape was granted bail yesterday with a warning that he would be locked up until the case is determined if he violates the conditions of his release. Senior magistrate Peggy Hamoonga told Solomon Madabula to behave well or lose his freedom after she released him on his own recognisance of P500.

The suspect was ordered to report to the police every week. He will appear for trial on July 9.  Madabula is said to have raped a 12-year-old girl at New Stance in Francistown.

State prosecutor Inspector Azhani Mokokomane said that the accused was arrested and then released by the police and warned to stay at home all the time and report to the police station.
