Closure of UB Stadium flashes red light
The Premier League season should have long ended, the indicator; the closure of the UB Stadium for routine rehabilitation. Was is it a wise decision to allow the Mascom Top 8 competition to be played over two legs and doesn't the league table look clumsy with other teams having played 26 games while others are left with one match?

Finest athlete

Light flyweight boxer, Mooketsi Lekgetho is the toast of local boxers after he landed the country's only gold medal during the Africa Boxing Cup, which ended on Friday.

Finest moment

Township Rollers attacking midfielder, Mogakolodi 'Tsotso' Ngele put behind a disappointing show against Bafana Bafana when he returned to the local scene to haunt the Gaborone United defence. Ngele scored two brilliant goals, with both feet to sink GU 2-1 in the Mascom Top 8 semi final.

Disa-ster of the week

The UB Stadium has closed for rehabilitation, a routine process, which will hit the Premier League hard given the shortage of venues. But the Premier League office does not deserve anyone's sympathy given the way the league has been run this season. Since be Mobile came on board as a sponsor, there has been a fluent end to the season but alas, the gains were reversed during the current campaign. The season has spilled over and it's almost July and the competition is dragging on. It would not be surprising to find fans dozing during the remaining games as most of them are inconsequential. We know that the Zebras AFCON campaign affected the smooth running of the league but some countries, which took part in the AFCON and had similar challenges, have completed their programmes. While tactically it is an appropriate test to have two legged cup competitions, in the Premier League authorities' case, it did not make much sense given the limited time. It is apparent that the Premier League office is now more concerned with clearing the fixture backlog than to offer a genuine product to the fans. The closure of the UB Stadium is a clear indicator that the season should have long finished.

Talking point

Joel Mogorosi is not necessarily caught between a rock and a hard place, but certain perceptions have been created that indeed he is. Sports Chat is not privy to details of the contract between Mochudi Centre Chiefs and FC Platinum, but it is imperative that whatever deal is entered into, is done above board. Money is the ultimate lure for both the club and the player, but if there is a valid contract between Mogorosi and FC Platinum then it needs to be respected. We smell a messy, protracted wrangle if Mogorosi attempts to sign with another club, without the involvement of FC Platinum.

Meanwhile, there is a feeling among some fans that Mogorosi was misguided in signing for the Zimbabwean club. But what was the player supposed to do given that there were no other offers at the time and football is such a short career?

The stat

Five, the number of medals Botswana won at the Africa Boxing Cup.

The quote

"What he said [when he scored], he said in English and I didn't understand. So I put my hand in front of his mouth just in case, because Mario is instinctive but that is also his strength," Italian defender, Leonardo Bonucci explaining why he "gagged" Mario Balotelli on Monday night.
