In a dramatic turn of events, organisers of the Coca-Cola Cup have announced that BDF XI will meet Notwane in the finals after defending champions Township Rollers failed to honour a semi-final replay last night. Till Wednesday this week, Rollers were headed to the final after hammering BDF XI 3-0 in the semis. .

The risks facing Moupo
FRANCISTOWN: Botswana National Front (BNF) president Otsweletse Moupo risks losing his parliamentary seat if his financial problems become intractable and lead to bankruptcy. Legal experts have told Mmegi that the law states that a person who has been declared insolvent cannot be an MP and must be disqualified if he is already in Parliament. Hence insolvency would mean that Moupo would be kicked out of Parliament. If this happens he would lose his Gaborone North West seat and position as Leader of Opposition in Parliament declared - a portfolio that puts him at par with Assistant Ministers.

Botswana journalists' bid for freedom fails
PLUMTREE: Two Botswana lsjournalists accused of violating Zimbabwe's tough media and immigration laws will face trial in November after their application to have the case dismissed failed.

Batshu to retire next year
The Commissioner of Police, Edwin Batshu, who has only served for three years, is expected to retire next year after reaching the mandatory age for retirement.

Obakeng returns
Obakeng Kgosi returned home on Wednesday after undergoing a successful kidney transplant in Pakistan. Speaking to Mmegi a day after his return, Obakeng said that he was so happy to be back. He said that he missed Batswana in general, but mostly his friends.

Naledi by-election lands NDF in dilemma
The National Democratic Front (NDF) is in a dilemma over the forthcoming Naledi North council by-election in Gaborone. NDF leader Dick Bayford indicated to Mmegi that one of the difficult repercussions of their affiliation to the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has caught up with them in the forthcoming by-election.

Organisations' presidents to meet over negotiations
Presidents of the teachers' organisations will meet next week to chart the way forward for the negotiating teams to start their talks on the merger of the four teachers organisations.

Students demand immediate payment
About 86 out of 372 Botswana students studying Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of North-West in South Africa have petitioned the Department of Student Placement for failure to pay their living allowance for the last five months.
