Law Society moves against Moupo
The High Court in Lobatse will today hear a case in which the Law Society of Botswana (LSB) wants the law firm of Botswana National Front (BNF) president Otsweletse Moupo, to be placed under curatorship. In a double application, the LSB wants Moupo, Motswagole and Dingake law firm and Awuah Khan and Company to be put under curatorship for failure to regularise after being struck off the register for violating the Legal Practitioners Act.

Moupo pays political debts
FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana National Front (BNF) president, Otsweletse Moupo, has reportedly paid the political funds he has owed three opposition parties for the last two years. The embattled Moupo was given about P150,000 by an unknown benefactor in 2004 through his equally troubled law firm to distribute to BNF, Botswana Alliance Movement (BAM) and Botswana People's Party (BPP).

Tanzanian couple granted bail in theft case
FRANCISTOWN: A Tanzanian couple was granted bail on Friday, following their arrest last month on charges of stealing by servant. Celestine Kazoba, 49, and Augustina Kazoba, 32, were offered bail on their own recognizance of P1,000 each.

MoH in massive recruitment exercise
FRANCISTOWN: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has started a mass recruitment exercise because of new district hospitals. The ministry spokesman Colo Boitshoko said that already they have sent recruitment teams to a number of countries in Asia and Africa. He said that they have had a positive response from the countries they visited. He added that they are receiving applications from nurses from the SADC region on a daily basis.

IUCN chief to launch forum and grace KCS dinner
The president of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), Valli Moosa is scheduled to officially launch Botswana's New Environment and Development Forum. Moosa, former South African minister of environmental affairs and tourism, is expected to give a keynote speech to this evening's forum, whose theme is "Turning desertification into new opportunities - economic valuation of Botswana's Drylands."

Nine die in road mishaps
At least nine people died in 258 separate road traffic accidents recorded by the police in the past week. A total of 319 people have already died in road traffic accidents since the beginning of the year compared to 315 recorded during the same period last year.

Ramsay denies film role in US trip
The Press Secretary to the President, Dr Jeff Ramsay has denied that the trip by government officials to the United States is a sign that the state has succumbed to pressure of the forthcoming 'Blood Diamonds' film.

Mogae arrive in US capital
WASHINGTON D.C.: President Festus Mogae arrived here earlier last evening. This followed a busy day of engagements in New York, which included an interactive dialogue at the Council for Foreign Relations, an extended interview with Bloomberg television, a working lunch with the leadership of the Millennium Promise Foundation, and a meeting with the Editorial Board of the Wall Street Journal.

Why High Court rejected woman's accident case
The High Court ruled that a woman incapacitated after a motor vehicle accident failed to produce sufficient evidence to satisfy the legal requirements that the driver was negligent. The judgement in Maggie Selemogwe's case was delivered by current Attorney-General, Dr Athaliah Molokomme when she was a High Court judge.
