Swaziland names squad for COSAFA Castle Cup

5/17/2006 4:46:17 PM (GMT +2)

Dennis Masina has been named in Swaziland's 18-man squad to play in the COSAFA Castle Cup at the weekend, leading a side that includes five foreign-based players.

Masina, who left SuperSport United two seasons ago, returns to the Swazi side for the first time in almost three years for the Group B mini-tournament in Gaborone, Botswana. The last game for the tricky winger was in the annual southern African championship against Madagascar in July, 2003. Masina, now on the books of Belgian Second Division side KV Mechelen, is joined in the squad, announced by new coach Jan van Winckel, by the PSL-based duo of Bongani Mdluli of Dynamos and SuperSport United's Tony Tsabedze. Swaziland are also flying back home goalkeeper Mlondi Mdluli and midfielder Lwazi Maziya from college in the USA where they play in Alabama. Maziya was used by Mbabane Swallows when they played against Orlando Pirates of South Africa in their MTN CAF Champions League earlier in the first round tie this year. It is the first game for Van Winckel, who is also from Mechelen and a former assistant of the renowned Dutch coach Aad de Mos. Swaziland meets South Africa in the first of the semi-finals of Group B of this year's COSAFA Castle Cup. The second match is between hosts Botswana and Madagascar. Both matches are at the National Stadium in Gaborone on Saturday. On Sunday, the two losers play in a third place play-off game and then the semi-final victors meet at 3.15pm to decide the group winner, who will go into the final four of the competition later in the year.
